[Skill Inheritance Use Case] Significant Reduction of Defects in the Painting Department of an Automobile Manufacturer
Utilizing the visualization of gaze, we analyze tasks and visual inspections performed with craftsmanship. Smart glasses for swiftly and clearly passing on the skills of artisans to the younger generation!
Quality control and skill transfer and education are challenges faced by many manufacturing industries. We would like to introduce a case where the visualization of gaze was utilized to significantly reduce defects. The painting process and quality control in automobile manufacturing are crucial manufacturing processes. While the painting itself is usually done automatically, the subsequent fine adjustments are often performed with "artisan skills." Even when trying to convey details through paper or verbally, it seems difficult to communicate effectively due to the hands-on nature of the work. As a result, variations in the skills and conditions of the workers became a significant issue. However, the introduction of an "eye tracker" to visualize gaze led to the recording and visualization of the gaze of both artisans and young engineers during their work, making it possible to analyze the collected data. This resulted in the following effects, ultimately leading to a significant reduction in defects: - The deviation between existing work instructions and actual work was clarified. - The differences in work between the artisan's perspective and the young engineer's perspective were revealed. - Where are the scenes that young engineers are likely to overlook? - What are the characteristics of the artisan's viewpoint? There are various other cases as well, so for more details, please download the PDF or contact us.
